The NFL will have the Packers play at the Bears in the Thursday night kick-off at Soldier Field as part of the celebration of its 100th season.

Today, the National Football League announced that the first game of the 2019 season will feature the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. The full schedule for the NFL season will be announced by the league later in the spring.

Will this be the start of a playoff season for Green Bay? Typically, the defending Super Bowl champion would host an opposing team for the first regular-season game of the year. The Bears would finish the rest of the season by winning 12 of 15 games, including the rematch against the Packers in December, to capture their first NFC North title since 2010. The rivalry, which the Packers lead 97-95-6, was amped up another gear this offseason, when they signed former Bears starting S Adrian Amos and the Bears countered by replacing him with ex-Packers first-rounder Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. The Packers are coming off of their 100th season celebration a year ago, failing to reach the playoffs and culminating with a 6-9-1 record.
