Microsoft has not officially given a date for the final release of the new Edge, but the leak and its features already have some suggesting that it may offer a serious challenge to Chrome.

In addition to this Microsoft-provided extension, we can also get a look at a selection of (presumably) vetted extensions for Edge Insider. At first glance, it's hard to know that it's even new. You can download the setup EXE from the linked Chinese forum, but we have to point out - you do so very much at your own risk, with this being a source we wouldn't be at all confident about ourselves.

As for actually using Chromium Edge, it is much faster. I noticed this on nearly every website I visited. Windows, Office, and even Microsoft Edge were all built and improved based on user suggestions. Microsoft indicated that it would try and retain its Edge advantages such as "the best-possible battery life and hardware integration on all kinds of Windows devices". The older version of Edge supported a limited amount of extensions through some developers who decided it was worthwhile to make extensions.

We didn't try this bit, but apparently, dark mode is working via the flags menu - but there's no option to turn it on in the menus now. It requires the feature to be enabled in the flags for Microsoft Edge. The "set tabs aside" feature, which was quite popular on Edge, has not been yet implemented, but it's safe to assume it will be.

The speed and polish of Microsoft's new browser seem promising, according to The Verge's impressions. It has an arguably better design than Chrome while integrating more deeply into Windows 10 itself. The Verge reports that when first installed, users are prompted to import favorites, passwords, and browsing history from Chrome or Edge. This new version changes all of that.

An early-build copy of Microsoft Corp.'s new Chromium-based Edge browser has been leaked online, giving a first look at what the software giant has in store for its latest browser incarnation.
