Sixers shatter any notions of a freaky Boston spell

Though Boston held the lead for much of the game, with Horford bullying the 76ers down low, Irving constantly penetrating the lane and Rozier lighting them up from behind the arc, the energy in Wells Fargo would shift in Philadelphia's favor after Celtics shooting guard Marcus Smart and Embiid got into altercation that would lead to Smart's ejection.

A turning point came early in the second half when tempers flared.

The Celtics played without Gordon Hayward who went for 26 points in their last meeting.

As Embiid then began to walk away, Smart stood up, took a step and gave Embiid a two-handed shove in his back, with both arms fully extended.

After a brief review, Smart was understandably given a flagrant-two foul and ejected from the game, while Embiid received a technical foul. Harris finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Of the block, Embiid would say "this is why I am the best defensive player in the league". "I didn't see it coming". The game remained tight throughout the fourth quarter and was tied at 113 with a minute left before Ben Simmons converted a three-point play. Butler had 15 of his 22 points in the final period.

The host Celtics took the season opener 105-87, won a nationally televised Christmas game 121-114 in overtime also in Boston and earned a 112-109 win in Philadelphia on February 12. Since the 2014-2015 National Basketball Association season, the Celtics have gone 17-2 against the 76ers in the regular season. Aron Baynes just couldn't handle Embiid. His highlight of the game was hitting 3-3 free throws as he was fouled on a three-point attempt to close out the first half.

Boston will take on the Sixers in Philadelphia tonight with an opportunity to sweep the season series.
