ISIS will be eliminated tonight, Trump boasts

This is ISIS on my Election Day, and this is ISIS now.

During his speech, Trump held up two maps of Syria - one covered in red representing territory held by the terror group when he was elected president in November 2016 and the other that had only a speck of red. "When I took it over it was a mess", Trump said demonstrating the map of the Islamic State-held territory.

Trump announced in December that he meant to remove all 2,000 troops from Syria, declaring that ISIS was mostly defeated, but he was criticized by some within his party for being too hasty.

But his latest admission shows the war against ISIS has continued.

Parts of Baghouz, eastern Syria, were seized by US-backed forces yesterday amid a barrage of gunfire and bombs.

Syrian Democratic Forces captured hundreds of wounded ISIS fighters, including suspects involved in a bombing that left four Americans dead in northern Syria in January.

SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali posted on Twitter: "This is not a victory announcement, but a significant progress in the fight".

"We will continue to hunt ISIS, al-Qa'ida, and any of their associates who threaten the USA".

"In Syria we're leaving 200 people there and 200 people in another place in Syria closer to Israel for a period of time", Trump said.
