For those Australian cricket fans who stayed up until the early hours to watch their team's series-ending one-day worldwide against India, a semi-sleepless night was worth it.

Australia were 2-0 down in the five-match ODI series after which they came back into the game and snatched the series from India's mouth to win it by 3-2.

However, the bowlers could not defend a total of 358 as Australia chased down the mammoth total with four wickets and 13 balls remaining to level the series 2-2.

"India got the better of us in Australia, although it was so tight, then we were able to get the better of India out here".

Langer praised the 32-year-old's ability to manipulate the field and pick gaps easily, also highlighting a catch in the deep during the final ODI as evidence of his improved fielding. "They deserve all the credit in coming to India and winning", Katich said.

"And you couldn't have tried that anywhere else apart from those three games".

"It's huge. Just winning a series in India is huge".

It was India's final ODI series before the World Cup in England and Wales, which starts on 30 May.

Optimism, it seems, has replaced the despair of just a few months ago.

"We always knew that the plans and the style that we wanted to play are all there, can win us the World Cup, win us big series against great teams and India are definitely a great team". On the other hand, it was Australia's first bilateral ODI series win since their victory over Pakistan in 2017.

"After playing cricket for a long time, I know if you look too far ahead you get in trouble".

Opener Usman Khawaja hit his second hundred in three matches to guide Australia to 272-9 from their 50 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan fell in the fifth over of India's reply but once Rohit was stumped after charging out of his crease to Zampa, India lost their way.

Ponting, who won two World Cups as captain, complimented Finch's tactical acumen and said, "Tactically what I've seen, he's looked sharp", he said. Former Australian World Cup victor Allan Border says, "There may no longer be room left in Australia's ODI XI for Steve Smith and David Warner after the team claimed its "best ever" series win in the format".

Now it's off to the U.A.E. and the first ODI against Pakistan in Sharjah on March 22. "Don't think of performance or pressure", said Kohli. Rohit Sharma's 53-run stand with skipper Virat Kohli (20) briefly calmed nerves in the Indian dressing room before their top-order caved in spectacularly.

"But the fight that we showed, we've had our backs against the walls for quite a while now so I'm really proud of the group".

Khawaja, who was named man of the series, said it was a sweet revenge after the home ODIs defeat to India early this year.
