River flooding expected by end of week

The Missouri River is expected to reach a record crest at Brownville this weekend. Municipal flood co-ordinators are being advised to warn residents in Warning Zone 1. At 5:15 a.m. Thursday, the North Raccoon River was at 10.5 feet or 4.5 feet below flood stage. The National Weather Service in an updated outlook Friday said "significant" snowmelt flooding is likely in the valley. The record level of the Missouri River in St. Joseph is 32.1 feet, set in 1993. Flood coordinators in the City of Brantford are advised to close Gilkison Street.

The flooding prompted evacuations of hundreds of people in Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota, washed out roads and left farmers concerned for their livestock.

Grand River (Caledonia and Cayuga): River ice remains present in the southern Grand River. A Flood Watch is issued when flooding is possible.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads".

Major reservoirs at Belwood, Conestogo, Guelph, Luther, Woolwich, Laurel and Shade's Mills are being used to store runoff and reduce flooding.
