Nine reported dead in NZ mosque attack

Multiple fatalities were inflicted at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday when at least one gunman opened fire on worshippers, police said.

Soon after, gunmen opened fire at another mosque.

- According to New Zealand Herald: One gunman, believed to be Australian, filmed as he shot victims in the mosque - and wrote a 37-page manifesto declaring his intentions.

Multiple accounts of a shooting at a mosque near Hagley Park in Christchurch and a heavy police presence in the area have been reported this afternoon.

Ms Ardern said neither she nor police were yet in a position to confirm numbers of fatalities and casualties.

He then exited the mosque through the front door - after just under three minutes inside, and headed into the street - firing random shots as cars drove past. In one report from New Zealand-based outlet TVNZ, they described the situation on the ground as chaotic, with police locking down neighborhoods and schools in the area of the two affected mosques. "This conflict over the 2nd amendment and the attempted removal of firearms rights will ultimately result in a civil war that will eventually balkanize the U.S. [that] will not only result in the the racial separation of people within the United States ensuring the future of the White race on the North American continent but also ensuring the death of the "melting pot" pipe dream", he writes.

"The second shot, I run, lots of people were sitting on the floor", he told media.

Jacinda Ardern said it was "one of New Zealand's darkest days" and numerous victims had chosen to make New Zealand their home.

EARLIER: POLICE are responding to a critical incident in Christchurch, New Zealand after dozens of shots were heard being fired inside a mosque.

The shooting began at around 1:40pm local time at the Al Hoor mosque on Deans Avenue in western Christchurch.

"Horrified to hear of Christchurch mosque shootings". This is New Zealand. "And he came through and he started shooting everyone in the mosque, everywhere", Mr Al-Mahmoud said.
