"However, although I knew of what was happening during that time, I thought of it as not a big deal and acted at ease".

"I will faithfully cooperate with an investigation by police that will start on Thursday and I will readily accept whatever punishment is in store for me".

It's worth noting that it's not uncommon for South Korean celebrities to issue a public apology over a matter in which they maintain their innocence.

The 29-year-old singer, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, said he will postpone his military service to undergo the investigation.

"I earnestly and truthfully answered during the questioning, and I also handed in the 'golden phone.' I am truly sorry for causing trouble", he said, before quickly getting into a van.

Since its debut in 2006, Big Bang has attracted huge, loyal followings in Asia and around the world. Forbes magazine reported in 2016 that the band took home $44 million USA in pretax earnings the previous year.

A series of recent scandals has exposed the dark side of South Korea's booming yet ultra-competitive entertainment industry.

It is unclear if the charges will have any effect on Seungri's upcoming military enlistment, which is scheduled to begin on Mar 25.
