CJ Mosley Expected To Sign With Jets

NY had to sway Mosley away from re-signing with Baltimore and backed it up by giving Mosley the most expensive contract to an inside linebacker in the NFL.

The 26-year-old Mosley is headed out of Baltimore after the Ravens abandoned hope of matching an eye-popping offer made by the Jets, a reported five years and $85 million, including a whopping $51 million guaranteed. That simply isn't the way general manager Chris Ballard likes to play in free agency.

Cabot notes several other teams are also interested in signing Mosley, one of the NFL's most reliable tacklers and a Pro Bowler in each of the last three seasons. Luke Kuechly averages $12.4 million per year and now Mosley is getting $17 million a season.

Instead, Mosley will be in the middle of Gregg Williams' defense in NY. It is something the Jets have been lacking since they cut David Harris in 2017.

The Jets now have a defensive core with Mosley, defensive lineman Leonard Williams and safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Lee, who was selected with the 20th overall pick in 2016, could fill that void.

The Jets clearly went into free agency wanting to add talent on defense.

While teams can negotiate contracts with free agents, no deals can become official until Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mosley is a great player. He had a career-high three interceptions last season, but also was suspended for the final four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. General manager Mike Maccagnan acquired him from the Colts in a draft-day trade previous year.
