But the Spanish manager was let go in the first half of the season and replaced by Solari, who guided the club to a bit more stability but couldn't win the most important matches.

Isco apologized for not getting on the bus on the day of Ajax.

Zidane won an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League titles with Real before resigning in May a year ago.

Isco has made 16 league appearances for Real this season, amassing one goal and two assists. The results eliminated the club from the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, and ended its hopes of winning the Spanish league.

Almost 10 months after he resigned, Zidane returns to a club in disarray.

Sergio Ramos says he takes the blame for Real Madrid's "deeply disappointing" season but insists the players will have no say on the future of Santiago Solari.

There have been various reports of disharmony in the Real Madrid camp, with club captain Sergio Ramos responding to questions about some of them via Twitter on Monday.

After being presented as the new coach at 20:00 CET on Monday evening, Zidane will take charge of his first training session on Tuesday morning.

Solari is set to be relieved of his duties after a 4-1 victory over Real Valladolid at the weekend, which did little to heal the wounds of a humiliating defeat by the same scoreline at home to Ajax, that put the defending champions out of the Champions League.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Real firmed up their interest in Hazard shortly before Zidane's reappointment, on a contract until 2022, had been finalised.

But now, he's back, for the time being at least, to guide Madrid to the end of the season when the club's president Florentino Perez will make a decision on how the club progress.

Reserve-team boss Solari came in as caretaker before being given a contract to 2021 on 13 November.
