The 21st installment of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe - and its first film with a solo female lead - took in an estimated $455 million worldwide since Thursday.

The result came in at the high end of expectations for Captain Marvel, and ranks as one of Marvel's most successful character debuts.

The Marvel superhero flick was initially slated for a conservative $125 million opening domestically. As depicted in this clip from Marvel's twitter account, Larson was also wearing a custom made Captain Marvel inspired tracksuit. "The Hollywood Reporter notes that globally, "'Captain Marvel' is pulling in more money than any Super Hero film introducing a new character".

The Brie Larson-starrer film beat out its DC counterpart "Wonder Woman", which had domestically raked in over Dollars 100 million in its first weekend June 2017, reported Variety. The actor was caught earlier tonight behind the counter at AMC Theater during Captain Marvel screenings. Perhaps the wisest course of action is to see the film and judge its merits for yourself.

The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law.

Box Office Mojo reports that Captain Marvel has earned $34.3 million opening day in China to earn the title of the second highest MCU opening day in the market, standing just below Avengers: Infinity War.
