Ocasio-Cortez shocked to learn lobbyists pay others to stand in line

Amazon's abandoned plans for building a new headquarters in NY has been big news, and while some celebrate and others lament, a spokesperson for the company on Thursday pointed a very specific finger when offering their reason for ditching: Right at freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"But once you get to the tippie tops, on your ten millionth, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60 percent or 70 percent", Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview with "60 Minutes". The top marginal tax rate is 37%. When a country that values the freedom of speech as much as the USA begins to equate the use of funds with that fundamental right, well, that's how we end up in our current cesspit. "So the ability of hedge fund people, various people - they aren't paying that ordinary income rate", he said. "These great fortunes were not made from ordinary income, so you probably have to look to the capital gains rate and the estate tax if you want to create more equity there".

Gates said "we can be more progressive without really threatening income generation - what you have left to decide [is] how to spread [it] around". 'Now, you finally have some politicians who are so extreme that I'd say, "No, that's even beyond".
