Rockland County Executive Ed Day has branded the situation in his area "the longest measles outbreak since the disease was declared "eradicated" almost 20 years ago", with a record-breaking number of infections.

Hayden also said the cases aren't linked: "We have a bit of a mystery".

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has confirmed a second case of measles in Vancouver this month.

The Department of Health said vaccine hesitancy is fueling the outbreak in some regions of the country and that 66% of the patients had no history of vaccination against measles.

Clark County Public Health did not identify any new measles cases or exposure sites Wednesday in its ongoing outbreak investigation. While they did not specifically mention other vaccines, the hype they created around the issue was sufficient to cause many Filipinos to fear vaccines that have been a part of healthcare protocol for children for decades.

When coupled with the 73 people diagnosed with the disease in Brooklyn, the total number of contaminations has topped 200 statewide, alarming local health officials. Four more cases have been confirmed in Oregon.

Clark County Public Health has been regularly updating its list of locations where people may have been exposed to measles.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed by a rash a few days later on the face, spreading to the chest. People who have previously had the infection do not need immunization. This offers protection for people who are unable to get vaccines for health reasons, like HIV or cancer. "Vaccination is one of the most cost-effective ways of avoiding disease - it now prevents 2-3 million deaths a year, and a further 1.5 million could be avoided if global coverage of vaccinations improved". The state's immunization program provides mandatory vaccines for free. That death brought up discussions about whether to do away with the "philosophical or personal beliefs" exemption to vaccinating a child before they're allowed to enter a public school, which inevitably led to a flame war between Jim Carrey and half of Twitter.

Immunization statuses could not be verified for five of the cases. From Feb. 9 to Feb. 10 it recorded 26 suspected cases, said Juanico.
