Michelle wrote about her relationship with her mother in her memoir, "Becoming", which also notes how Robinson initially resisted multiple offers to move into the White House before finally relenting for the sake of her granddaughters.

In photos posted on Instagram showing the text messages, Obama's mother asked her daughter what she did at the Grammys last February 10.

And although the music industry treated her like a rock star, Marian Robinson wasn't so impressed.

Obama told her mom that she was "a real star" but she brushed her off. However, while she was the star of the show for many, her mother's text messages brought her down to earth.

"I guess you were a hit at the Grammys", Shields wrote, implying she only happened to catch her daughter's cameo because a friend told her to tune in.

Sharing the text exchange with her 26.4 million Instagram followers, Michelle wrote: 'When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity'.

Just because you're a former first lady doesn't mean you're a "real" celebrity - at least, not in your mom's eyes.

Joey Gase, Ryan Truex, Parker Kligerman and Brandan Gaughan will have to race their way into the 500 during the qualifying races. Hendrick has been outspoken about how hard the 2018 season was on the organization, calling it one of the worst in team history.

Robinson: I saw it because Gracie called me.

"No you did not", Robinson replied, joking, "I would have remembered that even though I don't remember much".

Despite the friendly banter between Obama and her mother, the two actually have a very close relationship, as Robinson revealed in her first every televised interview past year.

She told CBS This Morning in November that her goal in living with the family was to help the couple's young daughters, Sasha and Malia, maintain a sense of normalcy, which included everything from rides to school to "laundry lessons".

One can nearly imagine the playful smirk on Shields' face here; not only did Obama appear alongside little known stars like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, and Jada Pinkett Smith, but she received the loudest applause from the crowd.

What do you think of the exchange?
