Prosecutors said that Da Silva, reportedly Reyes' ex-boyfriend, bound her by her legs and hands, put packing tape over her mouth, put her in a suitcase, and drove to Greenwich where he dumped her body.

Reyes' family hired a private investigator the day after she went missing, according to the Westchester Journal.

Da Silva - who, according to CBS 2-NY was living in the United States illegally after overstaying a visa - was held without bail at the brief appearance.

During questioning, DeSilva allegedly "admitted his role" in murdering Reyes, he said.

DeSilva was arrested after he fraudulently used an ATM card belonging to the victim, Valerie Reyes, Berry said.

The Greenwich Police Department announced the arrest of an individual "believed to be involved" in Reyes' death.

"We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy". "Additional information on the suspect and charges will be released by the New Rochelle Police Department", he said late Tuesday morning.

He was described as being cooperative during his interview.

Captain Berry said: "This entire investigation has been a herculean effort from the very beginning, from the initial officers on scene to all the work of all the detectives chasing down numerous leads".
