Deadly stampede in Nigeria at rally days ahead of election

The PDP in its statement on Monday said the treatment the president and his party, All Progressivea Congress, APC got at the Ogun rally is a direct response from Nigerians on how the Buhari led government have treated them in the last four years.

"We want to place on record, once again that any attempt to rig the February 16 election will be vehemently resisted by Nigerians, across board, who have reached a consensus to rescue their nation from the stranglehold of the Buhari Presidency".

Both of them will also make goodwill speeches at the signing of a peace accord by the presidential candidates ahead of the elections.

According to the statement, the President described the deaths as "needless loss of lives and an anti-climax to a highly successful outing" in the oil city that could have been averted if there was an orderly exit from the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

"Considering some of the challenges faced, the Committee organized the 1st signing of the National Peace Accord on 11th December, 2018 to support peaceful campaigns and political rallies".
