Pot smokers find caged tiger in abandoned house, police say

News of the tiger has created quite a buzz on social media, and reactions have even been curated into their own Twitter Moment titled "Overweight tiger found in abandoned USA home".

The tiger was saved Monday by the House Police Department's animal cruelty unit.

The tiger was insufficiently housed and left alone, but police said it was well-fed and appeared to be healthy. The garage was secured with a screwdriver and a nylon strap, according to police.

'It was a pretty small cage inside basically a garage in a house that didn't look like it was in the best shape.

Cottingham said a wildlife refuge can take the female tiger, but not until Tuesday, so it will be spending the night at the BARC shelter "safely secured from our other animals".

It was not immediately clear how long the tiger had been living at the depalitated residence.

And that's because tigers don't make for great pets, Krahn said.

'There's an incredible network all across the United States and here in Houston and here in Texas.

In a statement, the Houston Zoo said it will not be able to take the tiger.

A couple thought they might be hallucinating after sneaking into a vacant Texas home to smoke weed - and finding a tiger inside.

The cage that kept the animal was not large or sturdy enough to hold the tiger, the station reported.

"Fewer than 3,500 tigers of all tiger subspecies remain in the wild today, according to the Tiger Conservation Campaign".
