Winter storms clobber parts of Pacific Northwest, California and Midwest

Residents more accustomed to rain than snow were digging out from a winter storm while bracing for more.

Several rounds of snow will blanket south central Wisconsin through this week.

It was 9 degrees Fahrenheit in Arlington, Washington early on Sunday. Hundreds of people in Tacoma turned out for a snowball fight in a park after someone suggested it on Facebook.

In the Midwest, more than 148,000 customers lost power in western MI following days of freezing rain.

Another blast of winter weather is expected to hit the Capital with 25 to 35 cm of snow in the forecast.

There can be a rapid freeze-up in the lower Ohio Valley later Tuesday as temperatures plunge behind the rain, causing any lingering wet areas to turn to ice.

"This is a flawless morning to bundle up and play in the snow, but stay off the roads if possible", Gov. Jay Inslee wrote on Twitter.
