Freezing rain to hit Chicago area Sunday night

The District may get a little trace amount of snow accumulating but it'll all get washed away as we switch over to rain Monday morning.

The white stuff is expected to arrive on Tuesday morning.

It's possible, but the weather service predicts that even in a very light snowfall, Boston should expect to get an inch, and communities in Central and Western Massachusetts could get 2-3.

Pacific Northwest residents who are more accustomed to rain than snow are digging out from a winter storm and bracing for more. How much of it could land as snow?

The snow is expected to taper off to flurries on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for almost all of Massachusetts, beginning Tuesday morning for the western part of the state and beginning Tuesday afternoon for Eastern Massachusetts. Snow will mix with - or change to ice pellets later Tuesday morning, and to freezing rain Tuesday afternoon.

The weather service says that was colder than the Arctic coast or North Slope of Alaska.

Highs generally are expected in the teens this week, with mostly cloudy skies Wednesday and Thursday and partly cloudy skies expected as the weekend approaches.

Seattle schools will be closed Monday, along with other area schools.

The last time Humboldt County beaches saw snow was during the winter of 2002-03, forecasters said.
