Virginia Political Turmoil Will Help Him Win There in 2020

Vanessa Tyson, an associate professor of politics at Scripps College, accused Fairfax of sexual assault when they were both attending the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. "And it is incumbent on us to believe the women - 92 to 97 percent of women of those who come forward are telling the truth". Tyson alleges the sexual assault began with consensual kissing, but claims that Fairfax then "forced me to perform oral sex on him", she wrote in a statement.

Asked Thursday whether Ms. Tyson deserved the same recognition, the congresswoman answered, "I do".

The governor, who is only the second female governor elected in OR and is the first openly bisexual governor in the United States, said America needs to have a broader conversation at every level about race and the impacts of racial inequities and racial justice.

As Virginia continues to grapple with a multiple scandals rocking the top politicians in the state's government, Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax is vehemently denying details of a sexual assault allegation. The next in line for the governorship is the Republican speaker of the state House of Delegates. Fairfax would replace Northam as governor if Northam resigns.

The party made big gains in 2017, fuelled in part because by a backlash against President Donald Trump, his policies and the ongoing investigations into numerous aspects of his business and political practices. "I am a proud Democrat".

"I'm also taking a look at people that deal closely with him, in that community, especially in the African American community, for first steps", he said.

Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams wouldn't call on the embattled trio of Virginia Democrats to resign in an interview Thursday, saying they should take "responsibility for their decisions".

BB&T and Suntrust Announce $66 Billion Merger With New Headquarters in Charlotte
In December, BB&T said it was eliminating its Center City Allentown regional headquarters as well as positions held by Scott V. It will create the sixth-largest bank in the USA , with assets of $442bn and deposits of $324bn, according to a statement.

Cox also urged Herring to "adhere to the standard he has set for others", a nod to Herring's previous call that Northam resign. GOP House Majority Leader Todd Gilbert said it would be "reckless" to comment.

Northam came under fire earlier this month for a photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook that showed a person in blackface with a person in a Ku Klux Klan outfit, and Herring recently admitted to wearing blackface in college.

Trump, who has weathered a wide range of scandals involving himself and members of his administration, predicted the turmoil in Virginia over racially offensive behavior and alleged sexual assault would help flip the state back into the Republican column in the 2020 presidential elections. When interparty fury rained down on Northam after the photo came to light last Friday, it seemed likely he'd be replaced by Fairfax.

Democratic Sen. Louise Lucas said several people were crying, including men, as Herring apologized to black lawmakers Wednesday morning before issuing his public statement.

The governor initially said he was one of the two men, then denied it a day later.

However, Jerry Falwell Jr., the Christian conservative who leads Liberty University, sought to contrast the current crisis with the state's historical values by blaming voters in the state's Democratic-leaning D.C. suburbs. That's because of a freaky win in 2018 in which Cox's election run was so close to his opponent that his name was pulled out of a ceramic bowl designed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
