And I went, 'Oh, wow.' And the first thing I felt was embarrassment, actually... "I know that he's so happy that we've all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition". However, he added that in the end, it was about making something you believed in and working hard on it.

The much-lauded film was the 44-year-old actor's directorial debut, but he has admitted he felt like he "hadn't done my job" when he wasn't recognised in the Best Director category for the 2019 Academy Awards. The movie is also nominated for best sound as well as best actress for Gaga (she's also sharing original music credits).

Cooper received nominations for best actor and best adapted screenplay and the film itself was nominated for best picture.

Winfrey said she was "surprised" Cooper wasn't nominated for Best Director and asked him about his reaction to the news.

Appearing on Oprah's SuperSoul Conversations from Times Square yesterday, Cooper was particularly honest.

For the Mavericks , the move was about freeing up cap space. "I got word of it during the game". My job is still the same, to go out there, play every single night, be consistent, be solid.

"I think because I'm 40, and I've gone through a lot in my life, I was able to do it with joy".

"I'm at least glad you said that, because if I were you, I would be feeling some kind of way about it", Winfrey said. "And I've observed it in others close to me, and addiction in general".

Gaga is confirmed to perform "Shallow" with Bradley Cooper at the Oscars on February 28, but he will not be at the Grammys.

Lady Gaga will not attend the BAFTAs in London on Sunday night due to a major clash with the Grammy Awards, which takes place on the same evening in Los Angeles.
