White House announces State of the Union guests

A Holocaust survivor who narrowly escaped last year's deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue will be one of US President Donald Trump's personal guests at Wednesday's State of the Union address.

Blumenauer also tweeted: "The amount of damage, division and confusion Trump has inflicted on the American people over the last six weeks (and two years) has intentionally hamstrung our work in Congress".

Even so, Shelby said as long as Trump and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., remain at odds over allocating money for new wall construction, "the chances of us reaching an agreement are slim".

As a result, the biggest news coming out of Trump's speech is likely going to be what he does or doesn't say about his signature campaign promise of building a wall on the U.S. -Mexico border.

While White House officials cautioned that Trump's remarks were still being finalized, the president was expected to use some of his televised address to showcase a growing economy. Instead he will urge a congressional committee to do a border security deal by February 15. "The majority of Americans oppose a border wall and support immigration".

Some Republicans are urging Trump not to declare an emergency.

Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen has been extensively interviewed by prosecutors in the Southern District office. The committee was chaired by Trump's longtime friend Thomas Barrack, who the Times said is not mentioned in the subpoena.

A preview of Trump's speech released by the White House suggests the president, who is accused of increasing America's divisions with his controversial policies and fiery rhetoric, will appeal for unity. He will also give an update on trade talks with the Chinese.

Skepticism will emanate from both sides of the aisle when Trump enters the House chamber for the prime-time Tuesday address to lawmakers and the nation.

The source said Trump would discuss troop drawdowns in Syria and Afghanistan, and that about half the speech would be devoted to foreign policy. "Because we have a much better issue", he said.

Beyond Trump's rhetoric about border security, investors should pay close attention to what the president has to say about the USA economy, infrastructure, and drug pricing.
