In a thrilling final day of play at the HSBC Sydney Sevens, the All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens combined to claim double gold and take the lead in the Sevens World Series standings.

Tone Ng Shiu put the game out of reach shortly after halftime, and while the United States of America got one back, it was only a consolation as the All Blacks Sevens claimed their second title of the season.

"We need to get some perspective as well in how well as a squad we are performing", said Friday.

On the other side of the draw US were convincing in beating Spain 38-10 but England upset reigning series champions South Africa 26-5 to earn their semi-final place. New Zealand were too strong for France to set up a mouth watering semi-final.

Capitalising on a Fijian red card, the All Blacks Sevens ran in six tries, Vilimoni Koroi and Kurt Baker both crossing twice on the way to the 36-14 victory.

New Zealand also won the women's final, the Black Ferns beating Australia 34-10 for their 48th consecutive match win.

New Zealand's win capped a ideal year for the women's world champions, whose last loss came against Australia more than 12 months ago in the previous Sydney final.

"Fiji are an awesome attacking team", Australia coach Tim Walsh said.

"The last time we played them was Paris previous year, so it had been a while. we knew they would come out firing in front of their family and friends".

New Zealand's men perform a stirring victory haka after winning the Sydney Sevens tournament.

"We'll have a bit of time to go back, get our bodies right, have some family time, a bit of time off and just being away from that mental preparation of having to prepare for a tournament".

New Zealand earlier beat France 28-5 in the quarterfinals, after going through pool play unbeaten.
