WhatsApp adds biometric ID for more secure messaging

Face ID or Touch ID have a new objective: keeping others out of WhatsApp.

Make sure to update to v2.19.20 of WhatsApp from the App Store to gain access to the Screen Lock feature. To activate the new feature, click Settings Account Privacy and enable Screen Lock. In the future, Facebook plans to create a unified messaging system that would work across Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram, complete with end-to-end encryption. So, for instance, if one chooses the second option, then WhatsApp will be unlocked after one minute of using Touch ID or Face ID. The folks over at WhatsApp have chose to add an extra layer of security for those using the app and allow them to lock the app behind Face ID or Touch ID. This means the latest development doesn't lock your WhatsApp chats on an individual basis.

According to the description, you can still reply to messages from notifications and you can also answer incoming calls while WhatsApp is locked. WhatsApp for Android is also in the rumours to bring a similar form of authentication layer in the coming future.
