Harris is a former state attorney general.

U.S. Senator Kamala Harris waves to supporters during her presidential campaign launch rally in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in Oakland, California, on January 27.

Harris said throughout her life she has "only had one client: the people", echoing the words she has used in courtrooms and has adopted as her campaign's slogan.

Michael Ahrens, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, called it "fitting" that Harris chose "the most liberal district in deep-blue California to launch her campaign".

Harris, a first-term US senator from California who announced her candidacy last Monday, rallied thousands of supporters at the Frank Ogawa Plaza in Oakland, her hometown and where she served as a prosecutor before becoming the state attorney general.

Harris took a barely concealed shot at Trump and his administration as she spoke of the "arrogance of power", warning: "The American dream and our American democracy are under attack and on the line like never before".

With the official launch of her campaign, Ms. Harris is increasingly considered one of the strongest in a pack of diverse Democratic candidates - women, racial and sexual minorities - making a bid for the White House in 2020.

A UCL win would be a first ever for the club, but the side is actually strong enough to pose a challenge for it. Guardiola added that it's impossible to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid in the transfer market.

Harris, whose father is from Jamaica and whose mother is Indian, said that "in the face of powerful forces trying to sow hate and division among us, the truth is that as Americans, we have so much more in common than what separates us".

Early on in her speech, Ms. Harris invoked memories of her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, a biologist who immigrated to the USA from Chennai. And I certainly helped with her first race for district attorney in San Francisco."And while he points out that he has also helped the careers of other prominent Democrats, such as U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Sen".

Harris instead insisted that it was a "very painful experience" for her.

Harris's campaign will be based in Baltimore and led by Juan Rodriguez, who managed her 2016 Senate campaign. She said her platform will include several progressive policies like debt-free college and "Medicare for all", which would allow Americans to opt into government-run health coverage. "But behind the scenes, I'm going to tell you I compare my record to any prosecutor, any elected prosecutor in this country, in terms of the work that I have done to reform the criminal justice system". "I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States".

Sens. Elizabeth Warren of MA and Kirsten Gillibrand of NY have announced exploratory committees.

She also gets a boost from having California as her home state. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden. According to Slate, she raised $1.5 million for the campaign in the first 24 hours of her announcement.
