Trump made the comments in a telephone interview late on January 12 with Fox News, after The Washington Post reported that the US president "has gone to extraordinary lengths to hide details" of his conversations with Putin.

"I have concluded that the Treasury Department's proposal is flawed and fails to sufficiently limit Oleg Deripaska's control and influence of these companies and the Senate should move to block this misguided effort by the Trump Administration and keep these sanctions in place", Schumer said in a news release. But the interpreter told them that the president had taken the notes after the meeting, and had instructed the translator not to discuss the meeting, the former official said.

Then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was present at that Hamburg meeting, which occurred at the G-20 summit. The secrecy "is not only unusual by historical standards, it is outrageous", says Strobe Talbot, former deputy secretary of state under Bill Clinton.

Trump has been trying to play up his presence at the White House during the standoff as a sign that it's Democrats who won't negotiate a deal.

Trump also said he had "a great conversation" with Putin during their one-on-one, almost two-hour meeting in Helsinki in July 2018.

"If you compare objectively President Trump's policies in Russian Federation... to President Obama's policies in Russian Federation".

Bernstein told CNN on Sunday that Trump's actions had led White House insiders to believe he has become a "half-witting pawn" working on behalf of Vladimir Putin.

He was referring to a New York Times report Friday night that law enforcement officials were so anxious about President Trump's behavior just days after he fired James Comey as FBI director that they launched an investigation into whether the president was working for Russian Federation against American interests. The interpreter revealed only that Mr. Trump replied "I believe you" when Putin denied meddling in the US elections, according to the Post. Many of the President's talking points were rehearsed: "A lot of the people that aren't getting their checks are letting us know, 'We don't care, you've got to solve the crisis at the border, '" he said of the 800,000 federal workers now furloughed due to the partial government.

Although Trump has been unusually pro-Russia in his rhetoric, his policies toward Russian Federation have not differed significantly from other administrations, a fact that President Barack Obama's former ambassador to Russian Federation remarked upon during an interview with Salon in June.

"I mean, I had a conversation like every president does".

Robert Mueller took over the investigation when he was appointed special counsel soon after Comey's firing. "I do it with all countries. After the rigged & botched Crooked Hillary investigation, where she was interviewed on July 4th Weekend, not recorded or sworn in, and where she said she didn't know anything (a lie),".

A House Republican's line of questioning uncovered revelations that in May 2017 senior FBI leadership debated whether President Trump was directed by the Russian government to fire FBI Director James Comey, Fox News has learned.

'Anybody could have listened to that meeting, it is open for grabs.
