Following the airing of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R Kelly, which details the allegations of abuse and statutory rape against Kelly, Chicago police have confirmed they spoke to the Ignition singer after the Cook County State's Attorney's office received a tip that two women were being held against their will at the star's residence in Trump Tower.

On Friday, Steven Greenberg appeared in a pretaped segment on CBS This Morning where he called the docuseries - which alleges that the 52-year-old R&B singer has kept women against their will in both Chicago, Illinois, and Atlanta, Georgia - "a hit piece".

"My understanding is that she did not claim to be 15", he said.

With fresh focus on the claims, which have prompted a new criminal investigation, his attorney Steve Greenberg said his client strongly denies all the allegations.

When asked about Kelly's rumored legal action plans, Greenberg said "hopefully he'll sue Lifetime" for defamation.
