Now that he is unemployed again, Mourinho has been repeatedly linked with a number of high-profile jobs.

Mourinho was sacked by United last month after two and half years in charge of the Premier League club.

The former Chelsea handler signed an improved contract with United a year ago which was due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season, with an option of a further season.

The source explained that Real sounded out Mourinho prior to Solari's hiring, with the Portuguese boss stating his commitment to his job at Old Trafford.

His record speaks for itself and various new job opportunities have been mooted since he became available to take charge at a new club.

Their 2-0 home defeat by Real Sociedad on Sunday saw them slump to fifth in La Liga, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona.

With Santiago Solari under pressure at the Bernabeu, Mourinho - who was sacked by Manchester United in December - emerged as a potential candidate, having left the club on good terms with president Florentino Perez in 2013, while he remains a fan favourite at Inter, after guiding them to a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League Treble in 2010.

Yankees reportedly have not made formal offer to Manny Machado
Levine also reported that "momentum is building" for the White Sox to land Machado despite a front-runner not being clear. Spotrac lists the Phillies at $82.7 million before additions and the Yankees at $120.8 million.

When a professional returns or is invited to return to a club it is a tremendous honour.

"I have no intention of working in Portugal at all", he said.

"I haven't received an offer and even if I did, obviously the president of Benfica and the club itself would be the first to know my decision", he told the website of the Correo da Manha newspaper. "Everything has been sorted", said a source close to the former United, Inter and Real Madrid boss, the Daily Mail reported.

It will be interesting to hear the Portuguese's opinions on that match, but everyone will be tuning in to find out what he has to say about his final few months at Manchester United.

This is according to The Sun, who add that Chelsea included a similar clause in Mourinho's contract that forced United to pay £15m when they hired him.

Mourinho has also been spoken of as a possible successor to the axed Rui Vitoria at Benfica.
