Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos are divorcing after 25-year marriage

Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos said in the statement that they hope to remain friends and "partners in ventures". The two said that if they had known they would separate after 25 years of marriage, they would do it all again.

And there may never have been more money than in this case.

Based on the value of the anticipated settlement, Bezos may be obligated to sell or pledge shares that could dilute his ownership and management of the e-commerce giant.

Mr Bezos also founded space company Blue Origin in 2000, and is funnelling $1 billion a year of his own fortune into pulling it out of start-up mode and into production.

And after "a long period of loving exploration", Bezos and his wife, Mackenzie, announced they would be separating. An Amazon spokesman confirmed the divorce.

The couple have also acquired at least five homes in California, Washington state, Texas, Washington D.C. and NY throughout their 25-year marriage. The Bezos' have four children, three sons and one adopted daughter, according to the BBC. Bezos's fortune has soared to more than $160bn, thanks to his stake in Amazon.

Bezos, Sanchez and Amazon did not yet respond to requests for comment.

Though Jeff and MacKenzie are divorcing, they assured everyone they remain on good terms and have no bad blood between them. However, affairs in his private life are seemingly not going so well. According to Wired, she handled some of the firm's first freight contracts while working at a Barnes & Noble bookstore - a company which would eventually face intense and overpowering competition from Amazon itself.

Bezos, one of the world's richest men, made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday.

A divorce could reshape the wealth rankings.

He's the founder and CEO of Amazon, which is one of the largest and most profitable companies in history.

The couple met when they worked at hedge fund D.E. Shaw, and married in 1993.

If you don't know you Jeff Bezos is, let's do a quick recap. While his wife did the cross-country driving, Bezos wrote a business plan on the way to Seattle - chosen for its abundance of tech talent. She's an award-winning author who published two novels, "The Testing of Luther Albright" in 2005 and "Traps" in 2013.

MacKenzie Bezos performed accounting for Amazon in the first year of its existence, but reportedly does not hold any shares directly.
