What began as a shootout quickly turned into a rout in Monday's College Football National Championship as Clemson turned a 16-14 early second-quarter deficit into a 44-16 victory over defending national champion Alabama.

The Crimson Tide were defeated handily by Clemson in the College Football Playoff title game, but WJOX-94.5 FM in Birmingham ran a pre-recorded commercial from a Hoover-based Academy Sports + Outdoors store advertising Alabama national championship gear.

Lawrence, who took over as starting quarterback after five games into the season, passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the stunning upset at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Justyn Ross caught six balls for 153 yards and a score for Clemson, which shut out 'Bama after leading 31-16 at the half. "We were never in that conversation, but tonight there's no doubt".

Yankees reportedly have not made formal offer to Manny Machado
Levine also reported that "momentum is building" for the White Sox to land Machado despite a front-runner not being clear. Spotrac lists the Phillies at $82.7 million before additions and the Yankees at $120.8 million.

While Tagovailoa will be one of the favorites on the Heisman Trophy odds in 2019 as a junior, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be the one to beat despite being just a sophomore following his incredible performance in the national title game. Coach Dabo Swinney took to the podium immediately after the win and said he'll soak it all up now, but he'll get back to film Friday and start preparing for next season.

Alabama seemed panicked in the third quarter, running a fake field goal into a waiting Clemson defense instead of kicking from 40.

Nearly as shocking as Clemson, a program that promoted an obscure receivers coach to lead the program 10 years ago, climbing over the traditional powers to the top of college football. I am ready to move on to the next chapter in my life.
