Kevin Hart was originally asked to host this year's Oscars awards show.

Entertainment news site Deadline is reporting that comedian and actor Kevin Hart told sources that he will not host the Oscars because he doesn't want to be a distraction. I've said where the rights and wrongs were. DeGeneres spoke to Hart about the social media uproar and attempted to convince him to not let "haters" take an accomplishment away from him.

'I will say this, and I want to make this very clear. "Now we're in a space where I'm around people of the LGBTQ community, and I'm now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say 'That sh- hurt because of what I've been through'".

Instead, Hart sparked even further outrage, claiming that he had already apologized to the LGBTQ community - when no real apology could be found.

Ellen revealed she had spoken to Academy bosses and asked Kevin if he would consider returning to host, a conversation that sparked a backlash from members of the gay community, including top USA newsman Don Lemon, who said the star had failed to atone sufficiently for his past remarks. The fight is the will and want for equality. After some delay, the comedian eventually tweeted an apologetic explanation.

Hart took to Instagram on Saturday (January 5) to share an inspirational message about the importance of self-improvement.

He added in the caption, "When did we get to the point where we forgot that we all learn, then we all have the ability to grow and with that growth comes a wealth of knowledge. You've done it. Don't let those people win - host the Oscars". Please grasp this and use it in 2019. Teachers are great teachers when they LEARN how to get thru to kids correctly.

Hart told Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen Show" in an episode that aired Friday that he considered it an attack when his tweets quickly resurfaced.

With less than two months until the telecast on February 24, and no host named for yet, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are considering drastic alternatives.

The presenter said she had contacted the Academy to see if there was a way that Hart could return as host and that she felt "they were secretly hoping you would come back".

Vice reports that there was "early backlash" to DeGeneres' endorsement and support of Hart.
