For the second year in a row, the Mediterranean diet was named the best diet in America by U.S. News & World Report.

The concept of the Mediterranean diet comes from the countries that border the Mediterranean sea, where people historically ate mainly produce, nuts, and healthy fats. This year a panel of 23 experts scored 41 diets based on summaries of each diet from U.S. News and recent research.

WW also retained the #2 spot for "Easiest to Follow" diet, which speaks to the livability of the program. It also had to be proven to help prevent heart disease and diabetes. Diets were ranked in eight categories. The 2019 runner up for weight loss was the Volumetrics Diet, with Jenny Craig taking the number two commercial diet spot.

Another diet based on a healthy region of the world, the Mediterranean diet, holds the top overall spot this year for the first time in U.S. News and World Report's rankings.

The DASH diet, made up of low-sodium and healthful foods, was originally started by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as a diet to help reduce blood pressure.

India Rejects Trump's "Sermons" On Afghanistan, Says It Is Building Lives
Foreign Affairs Minister Salahuddin Rabbani said the Soviet occupation violated Afghanistan's national sovereignty. Simply put, the United States and Pakistan are re-bonding again as "natural allies" over Afghanistan.

In the book, Blatner says you don't have to cut out meat entirely to reap the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. It's more flexible than fully vegetarian or vegan diets. Other diets at the bottom of the list included the Dukan diet, the Body Reset Diet and the Whole30 diet.

The flexitarian diet encourages people to try alternative meat options, like tofu, but leaves room for flexibility if you can't quite fully give up meat. Even those who didn't stick to the diet perfectly but followed it "moderately well" reduced their risk of Alzheimer's by about a third, the researchers found.

Among the diet's requirements is eating three servings of whole grains, a salad and another vegetable daily, as well as a single glass of wine if desired.

Weight Watchers - now called WW - was fourth. Although created to help people lose weight, experts say its focus on healthier living makes it a smart overall diet to follow. It assigns points aiming for nutritious foods with fewer calories. The new program expands dietary options.

WW offers its members support online and is well-known for its in-person group meetings. The trendy ketogenic diet (also known as the keto diet), which is very high in fats but low in carbohydrates, moved up to the second-best plan for weight loss.
