How to Force Enable Google Chrome’s WIP Dark Mode on Windows Machines

If you're looking for dark themes in browsers, Microsoft itself is offering such a feature in its own Microsoft Edge browser, and this one perfectly aligns with the look of Windows 10. Windows 10 has had dark mode since 2016, so it's certainly odd that macOS got Chrome's dark mode first despite its later release date on Apple's computer operating system than on Windows.

Chrome already has a dark-ish theme for incognito windows; these set the tabs, address bar, and related areas to be dark grey so that they're immediately distinguishable from regular, non-incognito windows.

Google engineer Peter Kasting confirmed as much in a Reddit post, writing that the team is working on a dark mode feature for desktop.

GOOGLE CHROME is bringing its long-requested Dark Theme to Windows 10, after debuting it on macOS late previous year.

Optionally, Google would also let users configure Chrome into a permanent dark mode, regardless of the background OS UI setting, in case users preferred this mode more than the light version. One solution could be to implement a preference toggle or integrate dark mode as a theme that users can select.

What channel is Chelsea vs Southampton on TONIGHT?
With Olivier Giroud out injured, Alvaro Morata is the only healthy striker on Chelsea's roster. Wingers Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi are also both on the shelf with hamstring injuries.

"Chrome should respect this", wrote Kasting. This can mean anything, so there's a chance that the dark theme becomes available with the next Chrome release or Google can hold it back until a different update goes live, just to make sure everything is working smoothly. Once this is displayed you have a scrollable version of Chrome open, which will allow (without direct URL input) navigation away to other sites if the links are there on the Wikipedia page to begin with.

The obsession around Dark Mode continues, as in the last few days we have heard about nothing but the upcoming dark side of Google Chrome. Then, in the "Target" field, add '-force-dark-mode' without the quotations.

While there is now no timeline on the release of dark mode for Chrome, we could expect it alongside the release of dark mode for Chrome on macOS.

The dark theme is still unfinished, hence this menu with nearly illegible black text on a dark grey background.

Now You: Do you prefer light or dark themes?
