Photos shared on social media by Stelter and others show police investigating the alleged threat near the Time Warner Center complex, where CNN's NY head office is housed.

"There has been a bomb threat phoned into the CNN offices in NY", tweeted the official CNN public relations account.

The NYPD reported that around "10:35pm, a bomb threat was called into the Time Warner Center", but later issued a correction saying, "Police responded to a call at 10:07 PM".

Stelter also tweeted that 58th Street outside the company's Columbus Circle headquarters has been closed down by police to traffic. The show was halted in the middle, forcing CNN to air pre-taped programming. Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating.

'We were told to evacuate the building and to do it as soon as possible.
