XFL announces team cities, and stadiums, and stadium capacity

Murphy confirmed that a third football team will be utilizing the stadium when the XFL returns in 2020.

Not only did they hype the announcement months ago, but now that we know the eight cities which will host the eventual XFL teams, their strategy might be coming together. Ticket prices will be "significantly lower" than other USA professional sports leagues, he added.

Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay, and Washington as the eight inaugural home cities for the league.

The XFL will launch in 2020 on February 8 and 9, which is the weekend after Super Bowl LIV. According to a release, the league will prioritize "fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules". Luck says they want to listen to fans and say they already have great ideas from them. Each team will have a 45-man active roster and the league will play a 10-week regular season. The XFL is now testing out elements of its format with junior college football teams to solidify a final on-field product.

The league now has 30 teams and, if expansion does take place, adding two teams (rather than one) would make sense on the surface. The franchise will pay a $650 million expansion fee, up from when Vegas paid $500 million to enter the league.

So who will the eight cities joining the XFL be? The press conference also promises to have more details on the state of the league. He also confirmed that the league will be testing for performance enhancing drugs, and is working with a world class panel of doctors and medical professionals to craft the best regulations possible.

In terms of selecting host cities for the XFL's first season, it was noted that more than 30 cities and venues expressed interest in participating, and that the league was looking for dedicated long-term partners rather than just a buildings to rent.
