Sully is named after the airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed a passenger jet on the Hudson River in 2009, saving all 155 passengers and crew on board.

There will be a departure ceremony for Bush at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and his casket will arrive at the Washington National Cathedral five miles away at 11 a.m.

"He will be working alongside fellow VetDogs facility dogs SGT Dillon and SGT Truman who are there to assist with physical and occupational therapy to wounded soldiers and active duty personnel during their journey to recovery at Walter Reed Bethesda", the organization said.

Earlier Monday, Trump had posted that he was "Looking forward to being with the Bush Family to pay my respects to President George H.W. Bush".

Sully can perform a bevy of sophisticated commands, including answering the phone and fetching lost items as small as a credit card.

"He kept us flying high and challenged us to fly higher still, and he did it with modesty and kindness that would've been surprising in someone one-tenth as tough and accomplished as he was", McConnell said.

"The president and first lady were notified late last night of President George H.W. Bush's passing", Sanders said in the Saturday statement.

"A great joy to welcome home the newest member of our family, 'Sully, ' a handsome, and beautifully trained, lab from America's VetDogs". "Bush of course was defeated for re-election and most people at the time considered him a failed president" because of a recession during his time in the White House. The Facebook page for the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum also shared the image.

"I think he was one of the kindest, most generous men", said Marge Frazier, who visited the downtown statue on Sunday while showing friends from California around. Bush's casket will then be transported by motorcade to the presidential library, where he will be buried at the gated family plot near his wife and their daughter Robin, who died of leukemia at age 3.

The remains of the late U.S. President George H.W. Bush began a final journey on Monday, traveling from Texas back to America's capital city where he served four years in Congress, one at the helm of the Central Intelligence Agency, eight as vice president and four in the White House. A funeral service is set for Wednesday at the National Cathedral. The president will designate Wednesday, December 5th as a National Day Of Mourning.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the first official to speak in the Rotunda, described George HW Bush as a "humble servant" and "a principled leader". Later, he will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol.
