Iran Test Launches Multiple-Warhead Ballistic Missile

"Indeed, no country has converted a liquid-fuel, satellite-launch vehicle into a long-range ballistic missile".

Pompeo on Saturday said Iran tested a medium-range ballistic missile in violation of resolution 2231, which calls on Iran to refrain from "any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology".

Iran has repeatedly said its missile program is purely defensive and denied its missiles are capable of being tipped with nuclear warheads.

"This test violates UN Security Council resolution 2231 that bans Iran from undertaking 'any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology ...'" Pompeo said in the statement. We are accumulating risk of escalation in the region if we fail to restore deterrence.

The Iranian ballistic missile test comes on the heels of new evidence unearthed by the United States tying Tehran to the proliferation of advanced weaponry and missiles across the Middle East, including in Yemen, where Iranian-backed rebels continue to attack a Saudi coalition seeking to stem the violence.

"Israel knows very well how to defend itself from the murderous Iranian regime", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in response to Rouhani's words, in a post on the Twitter social networking site.

In the 1992 election, a beleaguered Bush appeared helpless against the challenge of the younger, more charismatic Bill Clinton. He also had been joined by Barbara for the ceremonial coin toss when Houston hosted the Super Bowl in February 2017.

"It is a grave and escalating threat and nations around the world, not just Europe, need to do everything they can to be targeting Iran's missile program", Hook said. "Iran is on the wrong track and our campaign of maximum economic pressure is created to starve the regime of the revenue it needs to test missiles and proliferate missiles, support terrorism, conduct cyber attacks, [and] conduct acts of maritime aggression". The idea that a nuclear-tipped missile would be "defensive" in nature is absurd, but there are Iranian apologists in the USA who back Tehran up.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks to the press on Capital Hill after briefing members of the Senate on the current relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States, on November 28, 2018.

Hajizadeh said the missiles had been outfitted with improved precision capabilities, making it possible to hit targets over 500 kilometers away to within 30 meters accuracy.

The Iran nuclear deal, although highly controversial, was considered one of the Obama administration's major legacies.

In May, President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the nuclear deal, approved before he took office, and reimposed sanctions on Tehran. Tehran insists that all its missile tests are in line with this non-binding part of the resolution, arguing that the arms are not created to deliver nuclear warheads. It has also maintained that it never meant to develop nuclear weapons and therefore its missile development does not violate the agreement.
