Redskins sign QB Mark Sanchez to back up Colt McCoy

The Washington Redskins reportedly brought in Sanchez along with Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates, EJ Manuel and Josh Johnson.

Coach Jay Gruden says Smith is done for the year because of a broken tibia and fibia in his right leg. Smith was hurt in the third quarter of Washington's 23-21 loss to Houston.

This isn't a new experience for Redskins fans, as it was very reminiscent of the leg injury that ended the career of quarterback Joe Theismann back in 1985.

Redskins offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh was the Jets' quarterback coach those years.

The quarterback spent the 2017 season with the Bears, but didn't sign with anyone in 2018 until Washington came along. Facing a short week before the Thanksgiving Day game against the NFC East-rival Cowboys, the priority is on someone who can quickly learn the offense.

The insane play originally happened on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) back in 2012.
