A lookalike of David Schwimmer aka Ross Geller from popular TV show Friends was caught on camera stealing from a restaurant in Blackpool, England.

Schwimmer's lighthearted video, which attracted 180,000 retweets and 611,000 likes, had been posted on Twitter two days earlier.

United Kingdom police have made an arrest in an alleged beer theft that made global headlines last month because the suspect looked so much like Ross from Friends.

He was caught on CCTV carrying the cans up an aisle, with Schwimmer's video response also showing him carrying beer in an American supermarket.

Police in Scotland even warned the public not to approach the suspect. The force tweeted: "Thank you for the support, especially DavidSchwimmer!".

Following the widely-seen appeal, police announced that a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall, west London, on Monday night on suspicion of theft.

It was shared more than 40,000 times and attracted tens of thousands of likes.
