Authorities in Ireland confirmed they were looking into the situation on November 12, 2018, but offered no additional information.

Air control reported nothing was scheduled for that evening.

The air traffic controller said there were no such exercises.

"OK. It was moving so fast", said the BA pilot. "It came up on our left-hand side and then rapidly veered to the north". There is no indication of concerns about a possible collision.

A second pilot, flying a Virgin Airlines plane, also called into air traffic control.

Something weird has been sighted in the skies above Ireland - after several airliner pilots encountered a "very bright, very fast" object last week.

The pilot said he saw "two bright lights" over to the right which climbed away at speed. Notice BAW94 is in a line of aircraft and just passed over Kenmare.

Mr Moore said that his organisation received a number of reports of fireball sightings at the same time on Friday morning.

Another pilot chimed in, saying the speed that the object - or objects - were traveling was "absolutely astronomical, like Mach 2 or something". Listen to the audio clip above (below the picture) for the exchange, which starts just before the 18 minute mark.

The Irish Examiner reports that a pilot of a Virgin Airlines Boeing 747, flying from Orlando to Manchester, then joined the conversation to detail the sighting of an object re-entering the atmosphere. This was clearly a very unusual occurrence as seen from the cockpit.

Two more pilots chimed in, sharing the same impressions, with one expressing relief that it wasn't "just him".

According to the Irish Post, there have been 12 reported incidents involving unidentified flying objects in the past 20 years.
