Texas couple dies in helicopter crash moments after their wedding

A young Texas couple died in a helicopter crash less than two hours after their wedding.

Byler's grandfather William Byler told KTRK the helicopter crash happened at their family ranch.

"We ask that you keep the Byler and Ackerman families in your thoughts and prayers", the Houstonian said.

The crash was confirmed by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), who tweeted on Sunday morning that investigators were looking into the crash of a Bell 206B helicopter in Uvalde, a city roughly 80 miles west of San Antonio.

The newlyweds were both students at Sam Houston University.

Will Byler and his bride Bailee Ackerman died when Byler's family chopper flew into the side of a hill moments after lifting off from his family's ranch in Orangefield, Texas, where the ceremony took place. "Our hearts hurt now, but we know this is not forever".

Photos and videos posted on social media show the couple and their guests enjoying the wedding. Thousands of people commented on her post to express sorrow.

The pilot, named by ABC13 as Vietnam veteran Gerald Green Lawrence, was also killed.

Ackerman announced the engagement on Facebook on December 29, 2017, with a photo of the pair beaming, and Ackerman holding up her left hand to show off her ring.
