Drinkwater and Moses must improve to stay at Chelsea - Sarri

The Belgian worldwide returned to training on Thursday but Sarri says he's not ready to play the full ninety minutes just yet so Hazard may have to make-do with a place on the bench.

Drinkwater, a £30 million signing from Leicester City in the summer of 2017, has not featured in any competition for Chelsea since the Community Shield in August and Sarri suggested that the England worldwide will not be playing for him any time soon.

Sarri explained why the duo are not featuring much in the early stages of his tenure at the club.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has hinted he will not be signing any player in the January transfer window.

"I think the situation is that Drinkwater for me is not suitable for a midfield with two other midfielders", Sarri said.

'I didn't ask anything about it to my club because we can stay with these players and be competitive. In Maurizio Sarri's and Chelsea's position I'd have done exactly the same.

"And Moses is more suitable for playing like a wing-back than like a winger or a full-back".

Milner: We could have been more ruthless
But also, we need the regularity of every match and the next match against Wolverhampton here, is the same. Arsenal versus Liverpool is serious business - he knows that now.

Drinkwater had offers for a loan move over the summer from more than one Premier League club but they were thrown out by Chelsea as they didn't offer enough of a loan fee, with the club hoping to sell him outright.

"We have used 26 players in official matches this season so rotation is key at the moment", he said.

Jason Puncheon was afforded a rare opportunity in the Crystal Palace first team on Wednesday night, starting against Middlesbrough as the Eagles fell to a League Cup defeat.

"Probably he will be able to play for 40 to 45 minutes". I have to look also at the minutes in the national teams.

"I don't want to think about the record, only to think about the match and to gain points".

"If you look at December and January, you need to change also in the Premier League because we will play every three days in the Premier League". Crystal Palace visit the west Londoners' home on Sunday afternoon, but the hosts will certainly be the favourites to win this game against a side that has only two wins in the last 10 matches.

Sarri has consistently maintained he feels a Premier League title race will prove beyond Chelsea this term.
