Defending national champion Alabama earned the No. 1 spot in the first College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

We then have undefeated UCF - who has yet to play a team with a winning record - sitting comfortably at No. 12, just waiting for any or all of those one-loss teams to stumble.

Not to mention they would still need to have Notre Dame lose at least once as well.

Every season, the 13-member CFP committee-which consists of one current athletic director from each Power Five conference, former coaches, players, administrators, and a retired member of the media-releases its Top 25 weekly rankings throughout the back half of the regular season.

The first top four teams were no surprise.

The Aggies face unranked Auburn this weekend, and will then travel home to face UAB, who is now first in Conference USA, and Ole Miss.

Though iPhones were rid of this feature a while ago, it's more surprising that Samsung may head in a similar direction. Many rumors refer to Samsung's first foldable phone the Galaxy F, a product name The Bell doesn't use in its report .

While other teams are always aiming for the No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, it seems that some circumstances never change over time.

"I didn't even know that was tonight". If it's a home game, you can give the host a standard three points or use our home-field advantage measures, which give fewer than three points for most teams.

"LSU's résumé: They have six wins against teams over.500, and quality wins against Georgia and Mississippi State", committee chair and Oregon AD Rob Mullens said.

It marks the first time the Aggies (5-3, 3-2 SEC) have been in the Playoff rankings since the Aggies came in at the No. 25 spot on November 15, 2016. The highest ranked team from the so-called Group of Five conferences is guaranteed a spot in the New Year's Six bowls, but the Knights, riding a 20-game winning streak, want to be included in the playoff discussion this year.

Both teams collide Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Only Alabama, Clemson and LSU were ahead of the Irish. The second-to-last rankings had Florida State at four behind three teams that had already lost. Ohio State (7-1) may have dropped a tough loss on the road to Purdue, but the Buckeyes find themselves at No. 10.

The top five offensive teams United Kingdom has played - Missouri, Florida, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Texas A&M - scored a collective 20 points below their season averages when they faced Kentucky. In my opinion, the unranked but good Washington Huskies win out the rest of the season which will include a win against Washington State. LSU, blemished at 7-1 but with a dominant victory over Georgia, got the third slot. So the rankings, for better or worse, make sense.
