The voting bloc that handed President Donald Trump his upset victory two years ago has largely wavered in support, causing races thought to be shoo-ins for Republicans to tighten; that, and the party has consistently been outspent by their Democratic counterparts in the months leading up to the elections.

In addition, Trump attempted to cast the midterms as "the election of caravans, Kavanaugh, law and order and common sense" during a rally last week, a reference to a caravan of Honduran immigrants heading toward the US border seeking asylum and Democratic opposition to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, whom Trump successfully nominated.

The Democrats would have to take control of both chambers of Congress - the Senate and the lower House of Representatives - to take control of the legislative agency and block Trump's ability to implement his programmes.

The Florida Democratic Party said RSVP information for Friday's Miami rally will be available in the coming days.

"I'm proud and humbled to have President Obama, my friend and a true patriot, on the campaign trail here in Florida", Gillum said in a statement. Scott is challenging Nelson in a race that could determine control of the U.S. Senate.

Brad Parscale, Trump's 2020 campaign manager, said in an interview with CBS This Morning that "the president's not on the ballot but this is about his agenda, and it's about the "America First" agenda and what he's accomplished in two years". The midterms are also often seen as a referendum on the president's performance.

And the latest numbers show this could be a record setting turnout of early voting, which ends Saturday, November 3, according to the Florida Division of Elections. Trump was already scheduled to visit Fort Myers this coming Wednesday.

Vice President Mike Pence appeared Thursday at a rally for DeSantis in Jacksonville -- another region that has been a Republican stronghold. All are states the president carried in the 2016 election and have competitive races for either Congress or governor.
