"It sounded like he, and also the Crown Prince, had no knowledge".

On Tuesday morning's "Fox and Friends", Graham said of bin Salman, nicknamed MBS: "This guy has got to go".

Rubio said money should not be a factor in the US's response to Khashoggi's murder because it could sell its weapons to other countries while also protecting its record on human rights.

On Monday, Trump tweeted that he was sending Pompeo to meet with King Salman in an effort to "find an answer". There has been no evidence to substantiate Khashoggi had such ties.

"We have asked for [audio and video] if it exists", Trump told reporters.

It's not clear whether these elements will be included in the report ordered by the Saudi authorities into the affair. And details - if they can be proven - like an autopsy expert identified by name, stepping off a private jet from Saudi Arabia, carrying a bone saw to perform an "interrogation", may prove hard to explain away.

A Turkish official told CNN on Tuesday that Khashoggi's body was cut into pieces after he was killed two weeks ago at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

The comment by the Turkish official to The Associated Press intensified pressure on Saudi Arabia to explain what happened to Khashoggi, who vanished October 2 while visiting the consulate to pick up paperwork he needed to get married.

Trump dispatched Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet King Salman over the case that has strained the Americans' relationship with the Saudis, carefully cultivated by the US president.

A Saudi delegation had entered the consulate one hour before the Turkish police arrived and appeared still to be inside as the search was conducted. His fiancee was not allowed into the building, and five hours later she was informed that he had already left.

He was last seen on surveillance footage entering the main entrance of the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

In a statement, Bachelet welcomed the investigators being given access to the consulate, despite a two-week delay, and called on authorities of both countries to ensure that "no further obstacles are placed in the way of a prompt, thorough, effective, impartial and transparent investigation". Noticeably absent from discussions was the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, about whom Khashoggi wrote critically for the Washington Post and whose rise to power prompted the writer to go into a self-imposed exile in the US. Turkey's private DHA news agency said the Saudi consul's office was among the rooms searched. The results of the investigation are expected to be released in two to three days. The senator said he would "sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia" over the disappearance of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

CNN and the Wall Street Journal quote unnamed sources saying Riyadh is preparing to admit that journalist Jamal Khashoggi died during a botched interrogation at the Saudi consulate building in Istanbul.

The official did not say when the search of the consul's home would take place.

"If this is the case, it's atrocious, and we have laws for this", Ryan said on "CBS This Morning", raising the possibility that Saudi Arabia could face USA sanctions.

The G7 foreign ministers called for those responsible to be held accountable.

Calling Khashoggi's disappearance a "terrible situation", he further said that the U.S. is working with Saudi Arabia and Turkey to figure out what happened.
