Netflix's Luke Cage Series Canceled

Luke Cage has become the latest Netflix casualty after the streaming service confirmed they were pulling the plug on the Marvel epic before season three.

The news comes just one week after Netflix also canceled "Marvel's Iron Fist," which just released its own second season in September.

"Unfortunately, "Marvel's Luke Cage" will not return for a third season", Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement.

Jones shared an image on his Instagram account of Danny Rand's Iron Fist meeting Luke Cage's fist.

Marvel had inked a lucrative deal with Netflix for several series including "Daredevil", "Jessica Jones", "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" with a fifth series - "The Punisher" - being added previous year.

Netflix has canceled "Luke Cage". Like numerous Netflix and Marvel shows, it suffered from bloat, with more episodes than there perhaps needed to be. Neither Marvel nor Netflix were willing to bend, and it ultimately led to the show's premature cancellation. Months after its season two premiere, the entertainment platform says the hip-hop-influenced show is done-done.

The show's fate was sealed on the same day as the third season of Daredevil, one of Netflix's other Marvel shows, came out. As it stands, Daredevil just launched its third season, The Punisher has wrapped production on its second, Jessica Jones has officially been renewed for its third and The Defenders is now being kept on ice. Together these cancellations scupper further Defenders plans and put a sizeable dent in Marvel's TV universe, though you have to imagine Cage's Mike Colter and Iron Fist's Finn Jones could appear in the still-alive-for-now Daredevil or Jessica Jones.

Rumors have persisted that perhaps "Iron Fist" and now "Luke Cage" could be resurrected as part of the upcoming Disney streaming service that will launch in 2019 but that hasn't been determined yet.
