Before the president's tweets Friday, counselor to the president, Kellyanne Conway told reporters there was "no reason" to attack Ford. Feinstein - the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee - eventually turned the letter over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Kavanaugh was spotted at the White House on Thursday, and allies said he is eager to address the accusation. But Tuesday, she began insisting on an FBI investigation of her allegations and said other witnesses should also participate in a hearing.

Their allies and opponents are issuing ferocious statements, further electrifying the election season atmosphere. Chris Coons (D., Del.) said he was "encouraged" by the hearing scheduled for Ford. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!... Here, moreover, it would be the first thing, since after 36 years a forensic investigation is not possible. The one being investigated uses vulgar language and suggests violence.

Debra Katz, Ford's lawyer, relayed the response to top staffers on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, seeking to negotiate the conditions under which Ford would be prepared to testify later next week.

Trump Jr. posted a meme to his Instagram account over the weekend depicting a grade school love letter, written in crayon with words misspelled, that asked "will you be my girlfreind" and was signed "love, Bret". But here's what I want to tell you.

"We fear that rather than learning from the past, Senate Republicans and the Trump Administration are repeating this Committee's previous mistakes and making new ones". Trump refrained from tweeting about his nominee.
