US President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Thursday meant to allow the sanctions to be implemented.

"For example, China's BeiDou navigation system could be integrated with Russia's Glonass global navigation satellite system, which will challenge the dominance of the US' Global Positioning System".

The CAATSA that imposed sanctions on Iran, North Korea and Russian Federation, has the potential to affect India's defence purchases as it is planning to buy five S-400 Triumf missile air defence systems from Russian Federation for around $4.5 billion.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Friday at a daily news briefing in Beijing that they strongly urged the United States to withdraw the sanctions.

A federal special counsel led by former FBI head Robert Mueller is leading a criminal investigation of Russian interference in the US election, and any possible co-operation with Trump's presidential campaign. "They are instead aimed at imposing costs upon Russian Federation in response to its malign activities", he said.

A Russian MP said the U.S. sanctions will have no impact on the sales of its fighter jets and missiles.

The economic sanctions are "chiefly due to the fact that we produce large volumes of competitive products", Russia's trade minister, Denis Manturov, told reporters.

They block the Chinese agency, and Li, from applying for export licences and participating in the USA financial system. Moscow denies any effort to meddle in United States politics. China, which relies on technology for its military modernisation has stepped up its military ties with Russian Federation.

Franz Klintsevich, a Russian member of parliament, told Russia's Interfax news agency: "I am sure that these contracts will be executed in line with the schedule".

However, a politician in Moscow said the sanctions would not affect Russian sales of military weapons to other countries.

The Trump administration is pursuing strategies to clamp down on China and faces growing pressure to respond strongly to USA intelligence agency reports that Russian Federation is continuing to interfere in US politics.

Relations between the U.S. and Russian Federation deteriorated rapidly after Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.

Members of Congress, including many of Trump's fellow Republicans, who passed the sanctions bill almost unanimously, have repeatedly called on the administration to take a harder line against Moscow.

Washington has expressed concern that Turkey's planned deployment of the S-400s could pose a risk to the security of some USA -made weapons and other technology used by Turkey, including the F-35 fighter jet.

"As to other potential recipients of the S-400, we haven't made any determinations yet with respect to what to do about those, but you can be confident that we have spent an enormous amount of time talking about prospective purchases of things such as S-400s and Sukhois with people all around the world who may have been interested in such things and some who may still be", the official said.

US officials have warned that Turkey's purchase of the system could contravene CAATSA.
