Recently, Jet Airways was also pulled up by a Bengaluru Consumer Court for overcharging a passenger for an economic class ticket and for losing another passenger's bag.

None of the passengers have been reported as seriously injured, but a drop in a cabin pressure could lead to reduction in the flow of oxygen in the lungs and bloodstream, leading to hypoxia.

Flight 9W 697, a Boeing 737 aircraft, was carrying 166 passengers when the incident took place.

India's Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a tweet it had sought an "immediate report" from official agencies. A year later, investigators concluded that omissions in controlling cabin pressure was a key reason for the crash. Subsequently, the probe was transferred to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is tasked to investigate serious incidents and accidents. "All around me, people were squirming in discomfort with their ears and noses bleeding", said Sharma, 39, who was travelling to Jaipur for work. Thirty of the customers suffered injuries, of which five were admitted to the Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. "He has been admitted for audiometry test and the hospital will issue a health statement after some time", a spokesperson of the hospital said.

A video has been shared by Twitter user Darshak Hathi, showing passengers using the deployed oxygen masks on air.

Both pilots of the flight have been removed from flying duty pending an inquiry.

Lalit Gupta, a senior official at India's aviation regulator, told the Hindustan Times newspaper that the crew had forgotten to select a switch to maintain cabin pressure.

One of the five Jet Airways passengers who were sent to a city hospital for treatment, has demanded Rs 30 lakh in compensation, besides 100 upgrade vouchers, alleging lack of proper care by the airline, sources in the airline have said.
