The former Sevilla and PSG coach endured a hard start to his Arsenal tenure, losing back-to-back matches against Manchester City and Chelsea, but victories against West Ham and Cadriff helped build momentum before the global break.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed that he is happy with the performances of Barcelona target Nacho Monreal and has suggested the possibility of tying the player down to a new contract.

Emery is busy preparing his side for the weekend trip north to take on Rafa Benitez's Newcastle side as the Gunners look to build on their recent away win over Cardiff City.

Arsenal manager Emery said he enjoyed a "relaxing" three days with Ozil in training after the player's retirement from global football meant he did not depart with the Germany squad last week. Here for me it isn't for a lot of the time speaking about what people are telling us.

Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal is giving no immediate consideration to the prospect of retiring from football, the Evening Standard reports.

The midfielder was criticised for posing for photographs with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the build-up to the World Cup, which saw 2014 champions Germany knocked out at the group stage.

Hurricane Florence expected To Be 'catastrophic'
European astronaut Alexander Gerst shared images of Florence's eye wall from space, calling the storm a "no-kidding nightmare". Tropical storm conditions are expected to spread inland and south across the remainder of the warning areas through Saturday.

'First, I knew Nacho Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and in Malaga.

"The reason for Mesut is important for me also, this focus every day with us, a relaxing three days off at the weekend".

The 32-year-old confirmed this week that he is in talks with the Emirates Stadium hierarchy and Emery is keen to keep his countryman aboard.

New coach Unai Emery doesn't want to let him leave, though, given his form at the start of the season.

The Spaniard has been discussing his plans for the future, with Arsenal ready to reward him with a new and improved contract at the club. He is very convinced about that in my conversations with him about it.
